People like Jaime and myself and so many others with children like my Nicholas and her Maggie don't feel comfortable going to "Picture People" with our special children. It is awkward and most commonly uncomfortable. The photographers don't understand that our children have sensory issues or quirky habits or special equipment to help them get around or even to help them breathe. It is a whole different world we live in and I am not by far saying that I understand it all. I am just saying I understand that the life with a special needs child is very different than the typical life of a child in an average household in America. My love for photography and for my most amazing son Nicholas sparked my desire to start my business.
My photo sessions are held where the families and children I photograph are most comfortable. If that is the child's bedroom or their backyard then so be it. That is just how we took Maggie's pictures. She was in her backyard, with her family, playing with toys she liked and I just followed her cue. We played music and she moved from place to place. She is an amazing little girl and she had a great time with her family and siblings. My favorite part of the session was watching Maggie play with her mom's anniversary balloon. She just loved that balloon and watching her play with it in the sunlight was simply perfect.
